Project Overview

Asian Mental Health Collective (AMHC) fosters healing, resilience, and connection in Asian communities in the U.S. through culturally informed clinical services, virtual peer support spaces, and support for Asian mental health providers.

Founded in 2020 by Asian clinicians and individuals with lived experience of mental illness, AMHC is a national leading grassroots organization facilitating culturally responsive care and community healing for Asian diaspora communities.

As a small, growing nonprofit, AMHC operates with a lean team and a collaborative working style. AMHC currently has an annual budget of under $1 million and is seeking to grow the proportion of its funding that originates from private and corporate philanthropy.

AMHC is seeking an experienced grant writing consultant to support proposal development for private and corporate foundation opportunities. The consultant will be responsible for drafting high-quality grant narratives and related materials based on funding opportunities identified by AMHC.

Project Duration and Timeline

This contract will be for an initial term of three (3) months, with the possibility of renewal based on performance, organizational needs, and funding availability. The ideal candidate will begin March 9th, 2026.

Scope of Services

The grant writing consultant will be responsible for the following:

  • Work collaboratively with AMHC leadership to gather programmatic inputs and clarify strategy.
  • Draft full grant proposals for private and corporate foundation opportunities identified by AMHC.
    • Develop logic models, or theories of change, and evaluation methods when required by funders.
    • Draft budget narratives in collaboration with AMHC staff.
  • Conduct necessary background research to inform strong, tailored proposals (e.g. funder priorities, comparable programs, framing).
  • Adapt and tailor existing organizational language to align with specific funder guidelines.
  • Revise drafts based on internal feedback in a timely manner.

Out of scope:
This role does not include grant prospecting, prospect research, funder relationship management, or government/public sector grant writing. AMHC will provide the list of funding opportunities and relevant guidelines.

Work Volume

  • Estimated workload: approximately 10 grant proposals.
  • Turnaround time will vary by funder, but most proposals will require a 2–4 week drafting window.

Reporting & Collaboration

The consultant will work closely with and report to AMHC’s Executive Director and Senior Director of Programming. AMHC will provide core organizational documents, past proposals, and program information as needed.

Budget & Compensation

AMHC anticipates an overall budget of approximately $2,500 for grant writing support within this 3 month contract window. The organization is open to different pricing structures, including hourly rates or flat fees. Respondents are invited to propose a pricing model that aligns with this budget.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal consultant will have:

  • Demonstrated 5-7 years experience in successful grant writing for nonprofit organizations, with a strong track record securing funding from private and corporate foundations.
  • Familiarity with the mental health funding landscape, including mental health, community health, or health equity.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce compelling, funder-aligned narratives.
  • Experience developing logic models, theories of change, and budget narratives.
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and collaborate with a small team.
  • Cultural competency and comfort working with community-centered and equity-driven organizations.
  • Familiarity and willingness to use Google Suite and Slack for collaborative work.
  • Ability to communicate with AMHC staff and meet occasionally during 9am – 7pm EST hours.

AMHC is not seeking consultants whose primary experience is in public, government, or municipal grant writing.
