Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome in the Emergency Department
In this video, we examine the essential role of emergency clinicians in managing unhealthy alcohol use and alcohol use disorder. Given that alcohol is the most widely used substance worldwide and frequently leads to health issues and injuries, emergency departments are uniquely equipped to identify and address related complications, including alcohol withdrawal syndrome. We will explore effective screening methods, provide guidance on differentiating between patients who can be treated on an outpatient basis and those who require hospitalization, and discuss strategies for managing alcohol withdrawal.
