원자적 연산 라이브러리는 락(lock)없는 동시성 프로그래밍(concurrent programming)을 가능하게 할 수 있는 잘 구분지어진 원자적인 연산을 제공한다. 각 원자적 연산은 다른 원자적 연산에 독립적이며, 같은 오브젝트를 포함하더라도 상호작용 하지 않는다. 원자적 오브젝트는 데이터 경쟁에서 자유롭다.
