As a SME, you’ll collaborate with other leading professionals to shape the IC&RC examinations, gain exclusive insight into the exam development process, and earn Continuing Education (CE) hours for your valuable contributions.

With dedicated Subject Matter Experts, we aim to ensure that we produce legally defensible, psychometrically sound examinations. Requirements for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
- SMEs must NOT have any affiliation with any other entity that oversees testing or exam development.
- SMEs will be required to sign an NDA prior to engaging in volunteer activities for IC&RC.
- SMEs must NOT be engaged as a trainer/educator for a program associated with an IC&RC credential during the duration of their volunteer service for IC&RC and for a designated time period after volunteer service as specified in the NDA.
- SMEs must be in good professional standing with no disciplinary actions, ethical violations, or certification/licensing issues in the last five (5) years.
Required Information for Subject Matter Expert (SME) Application Process
- An outline of professional history, credentials, and relevant experience.
- Proof of their credential and active status.
- A signed statement affirming good standing and professional integrity.
Subject Matter Expert Activities
- Job Analysis Meetings – In-person meetings to create and review data collected from surveys sent to professionals in the workforce. These discussions inform examination blueprints.
- Item Writing – In-person meetings to write new exam items (questions).
- Item Review – Virtual meetings to review the items that have been created for the new blueprint.
- Exam Form Review – Virtual meetings to review updated exam forms and ensure they are ready for administration.
- Standard Setting – Virtual meetings held to determine the minimum passing score for examination.
- Problem Item Notice (PIN) Meetings – Virtual meeting to review items that have been flagged for potentially problematic performance.
