The changes are cohesive UI/layout refinements with consistent prop wiring, and no concrete functional or type-safety issues were found in the modified code paths.
Pull request overview
This PR updates the chat/AI UI chrome and several shared UI components to refine layout, activity presentation, and small interaction details across the SQLRooms workspace UI.
Changes:
- Refreshes chat composer, prompt bubble, tab strip, tooltip, and attachment affordances to a more “neutral/muted” visual language.
- Enhances activity rendering with grouped timing (duration) and richer activity headers (elapsed time + step count) via
ActivityBox/rendering props. - Adds
CopyButtonicon sizing customization and updates a few small indicators (thinking dots animation, context usage indicator rendering).

Pass nested duration through the Activity slot
When a consumer overrides Activity and FlatAgentRenderer renders a completed nested tool group, this call supplies the start time but neither computationTimeMs nor computationTimeLabel. Although groupDuration was calculated immediately above, it is only embedded in summaryLabel, so custom activity chrome cannot consume the standardized duration fields or derive the duration after completion because no end time is exposed. Pass the computed duration through the activity props as the top-level timeline does.

Refresh the reference time when the timestamp changes
When this hook remains mounted while timestamp is undefined or later changes, now retains its previous value until the first interval tick. For example, supplying a timestamp hours after mounting initially renders it relative to the hook's mount time—potentially as “in 8 hours”—for up to 30 seconds. Set now to Date.now() immediately when a non-null timestamp or interval is received before scheduling the timer.

Link the stock composer's session to the pending artifact
When startNewChat('artifact-a') is paired with the standard <Chat.Composer>, its first send calls plain ai.createSession() (ChatComposerContext.tsx lines 176–185), not createArtifactScopedSession(). Once that session appears, synchronization clears this pending marker, treats the new session as unlinked, and clears currentArtifactId, so the conversation becomes global and disappears from the artifact's history. Consume the pending state by linking the next created session, or provide a composable session-creation hook that the standard composer can use.

Refresh the clock immediately when timestamps change
When the hook remains mounted with timestamp undefined and receives a value later, now can still be the mount-time clock until the first interval fires. For example, if the component mounted at noon and receives a 7 PM completion timestamp at 8 PM, Math.max(now, timestamp) reports “a few seconds ago” instead of one hour ago for up to 30 seconds. Fresh evidence in this revision is that the new Math.max workaround only prevents a future-relative label; it does not refresh the stale reference time. Set now from Date.now() immediately when the effect receives a non-null timestamp.

Distinguish approval waits from running activity
When a top-level tool part is approval-requested, isToolPartPending makes anyPending true, so this branch renders a running activity labeled “Thinking” and continues its elapsed clock. The same part is classified as an approval by getChatActiveStatus, and the default ChatActiveStatus simultaneously renders “Paused…”, leaving the standard chat UI with contradictory working and paused states while it is waiting for the user. Handle approval requests separately from actively running tool parts when selecting the activity label and timer state.

Clear the shared draft when opening a blank chat
When a user previously typed an unsent prompt on a no-session screen, selected an existing session, and then calls startNewChat, ai.draftPrompt still contains that old text because resetCurrentSession() only clears currentSessionId. The stock composer immediately reads the retained shared draft, so the API documented as opening a blank new-chat screen instead opens with stale text and may create the artifact-scoped session from the wrong prompt. Clear the draft as part of this transition.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

Expose live timing through the semantic activity region
A custom Turn that consumes the semantic turn.activity region directly cannot implement the new live timer: startedAt is added only to ChatActivityProps, while ChatActivityRegion still exposes only computationTimeMs. This is the one timing value that cannot be reconstructed from the region’s items, so such layouts must abandon the semantic API or render the pre-wired Content and give up control of the activity chrome. Add startedAt to ChatActivityRegion and populate it in the returned presentation.

Preserve the first terminal timestamp
When a run timeout first calls persistTimedOutSession, the turn is stamped at the actual timeout, but a delayed onChatFinish or onChatError callback invokes this helper again and overwrites completedAt with the later callback time. This is especially likely for an aborted in-flight stream, and makes the relative age describe callback latency rather than when the run ended; retain the existing persisted stamp when one is already available.

Use the approval label in aggregated activity
When a custom Turn renders turn.activity.Content and the current tool is approval-requested, model.isActivityRunning is true, so this path still supplies Thinking even though ChatActiveStatus reports the run as paused. Fresh evidence after the earlier approval-status comment is that the timeline group now handles approvals separately, but the composable aggregated activity path does not; derive Waiting for approval here as well so custom turn layouts do not show contradictory state.

Clear pending new-chat adoption during hydration
If configuration is hydrated while an artifact's blank new-chat screen is pending, pendingNewChat retains the session IDs from the old configuration because neither setConfig nor sync suspension clears it. On the next relevant store update, a current session loaded by hydration is absent from knownSessionIds, so this branch incorrectly treats it as the session created by the blank screen and persists a new artifact link; invalidate the pending marker when configuration replacement or hydration begins.

🔵 Needs a closer look
Three moderate findings remain involving approval-state accessibility, status labeling, and grouped activity duration calculation.

- The approval branch drops
status.labelentirely, so assistive technology receives onlyPaused…and loses the actionableWaiting for approval…state produced bygetChatActiveStatus. Keep the visual pause label, but also renderstatus.labelin this branch (for example as ansr-onlyspan).

model.isActivityRunningis also true forapproval-requestedparts, so this public turn-level activity path still labels the run as “Thinking” while it is paused. The timeline andChatActiveStatusnow distinguish that state as “Waiting for approval”, but a customTurnrenderingturn.activity.Contentwill show the wrong status; derive this label from the same approval-aware data (including nested agent calls) used by the timeline.
const activitySummaryLabel = model.isActivityRunning

- This reduction can include a completed call that has no
startedAt, even thoughgroupStartedAtignores that call. A legacy or partially recorded timing entry can therefore inflate the group's duration (and this path can also produce a negative duration), unlikecomputeActivityTimeSpan, which ignores unstarted calls and rejects reversed spans. Restrict the completion reduction to calls with a valid start/end pair, or reuse the shared helper so nested and top-level activity timing stay consistent.

Avoid treating Lucide icon names as height utilities
For buttons containing an unsized Lucide icon whose generated class name includes h-, such as <Trash2 /> (lucide-trash-2) or <RefreshCw /> (lucide-refresh-cw), this substring selector incorrectly concludes that an explicit height was provided. The new size-4 default is therefore skipped and the SVG remains at Lucide's 24px default instead of the previous 16px, enlarging common public Button usages; match actual Tailwind utility tokens rather than arbitrary substrings of generated icon names.

- This branch treats every non-streaming/non-submitted chat as a paused run, but
readyis also the normal idle status. A caller (or a stop-button race) can invokecancelAnalysisafter the run has already ended and this will persist the last turn asTOOL_CALL_CANCELLEDand rewrite its messages. Include the session'sisRunningstate in this predicate so only an active paused run is finalized.

- The new approval rendering is only reached for approvals present directly in the current UI message.
getChatActiveStatusdoes not inspectagentProgress, so a nested agent approval leavesstatus.kindastooland this component still presents the animated in-progress indicator while the run is actually paused. Feed nested approval state into the status derivation (or share the turn model's recursive check) so the bottom active-status indicator matches the newWaiting for approvalbehavior.

Keep reporting active work alongside parallel approvals
When a parallel tool group contains an approval-requested call and another call that is still executing, model.isAwaitingApproval makes the aggregated activity say “Waiting for approval” even though work remains in flight. This contradicts getChatActiveStatus, whose parallel-tool behavior deliberately reports the active tool in this scenario (ChatActiveStatus.test.tsx lines 110–130), and the timeline applies the same overly broad approval priority. Only select the waiting label when no non-approval tool is still active.

Preserve active work alongside nested approvals
When a nested agent is waiting for approval while another top-level tool is still pending, findLastActiveTool correctly finds the active tool, but this unconditional nested-approval branch overrides it and reports the whole run as paused. This contradicts the intentional handling of direct parallel approvals and shows “Paused…” while work is still executing; only prioritize the nested approval when no non-approval tool remains active.

Refresh the clock snapshot during server rendering
When this public hook is rendered by a long-lived SSR process, the third useSyncExternalStore argument reads clockNow, which is initialized only when the module loads because server rendering never subscribes or starts the timer. A timestamp created after process startup is therefore clamped against itself and rendered as “a few seconds ago” even when it is hours old, and the client can hydrate with different text; use a request/render-time server snapshot rather than the module-initialization clock.
