📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughKepler now supports structured nested layer reordering and applies that order to map legends. Legend items provide global or split-map visibility controls. The package also updates Kepler, React, and Jest dependencies and adds test-environment mocks. ChangesKepler layer ordering
Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~25 minutes Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to The Kepler upgrade currently changes the custom legend to show hidden layers and expose visibility controls outside the map settings, which can cause users to see or manage layers incorrectly. Merge should wait until that behavior is corrected; the React peer range also warrants owner follow-up for future compatibility. Sequence Diagram(s)sequenceDiagram

💡 Codex Review
sqlrooms/packages/kepler/src/hooks/useDndLayers.ts
Lines 76 to 80 in d659369
With alpha.7 grouped layer order, dropping a layer on another layer that lives inside a LayerOrderGroup still reaches this SORTABLE_LAYER_TYPE branch, but reorderLayerOrder only searches the array it is given for the source/destination ids, so nested ids are not found and the dispatch becomes a no-op. Upstream alpha.7 handles same-parent and cross-parent moves with the drag item's parent metadata and removeElementFromLayerOrder/updateLayerGroupInLayerOrder (source); mirror that logic here so users can reorder layers inside or across groups.

Tighten React peers for Kepler 3.3
Bumping to Kepler 3.3 here also raises Kepler's required React/ReactDOM and react-redux versions (upgrade guide), but this package still advertises react/react-dom >=18 and keeps react-redux at ^8.0.5. A React 18 consumer can satisfy @sqlrooms/kepler's manifest while pulling a React-19-only Kepler tree, which risks duplicate/unsupported React at runtime instead of an install-time incompatibility; please tighten the peers and align react-redux with the upgraded Kepler stack.

Use layer ids when ending grouped drags
When layerOrder contains a v3.3 LayerOrderGroup, lastEntry?.id is the group id, not the last layer id. Dropping a layer onto the side panel then calls reorderLayerOrder with a group id; if the active layer is inside a group the helper returns the original order, and if it is root it moves relative to the group rather than to the visual end. Use getFlatLayerOrder(layerOrder).at(-1) or another nested-layer lookup before dispatching.

Align editable-layers' community-layers peer
This upgraded lock entry now requires @deck.gl-community/layers ~9.3.0, but the same lockfile still resolves @deck.gl-community/[email protected] with @deck.gl-community/[email protected] and contains no 9.3 community-layers entry. Maps that use Kepler's editable/drawing stack will therefore install an unsupported peer graph mixing 9.3 editor code with 9.2 community layer code; please regenerate or add the 9.3 peer so the resolved version satisfies this constraint.

Preserve legend order from layerOrder
The alpha.7 MapLegendProps now includes layerOrder, and Kepler's panel passes that prop because layer order can contain groups and no longer has to match the raw layers array. This custom legend still builds visibleLayers from layers directly, so after users reorder layers or put them in groups the legend can disagree with the actual render/side-panel order; flatten layerOrder and map those ids back to layers before filtering/rendering.

Align Redux with React-Redux 9
After this bump, @sqlrooms/kepler resolves its Provider import against [email protected]([email protected]), while the upgraded Kepler components resolve their connected UI against [email protected]([email protected]) (pnpm-lock.yaml:3690-3695, pnpm-lock.yaml:20159-20163, pnpm-lock.yaml:30394-30403). Under pnpm those peer variants are separate module instances, so Kepler components that use connect/useDispatch read a different React-Redux context than the Provider in KeplerProvider.tsx, which can render the map with the standard missing-store failure. Please bump this package's redux dependency to the same ^5 range and regenerate the lockfile so React-Redux dedupes with Kepler's stack.

Route layer-group drags through DnD handling
This component upgrade brings Kepler's grouped layer list where group headers are sortable with active.data.current.type === 'layerGroup', but CustomDndContext.tsx:108-117 still dispatches only layer and effect drags. In a workspace whose layerOrder contains a LayerOrderGroup, dragging the group header therefore falls into the unknown case and never reaches the new layer-order logic or reorderLayer, leaving group reordering broken even though the upgraded UI exposes the drag handle. Please route SORTABLE_LAYER_GROUP_TYPE to the layer DnD handler as well.

Cancel grouped drops when no target is hit
When a layer that is already inside a group is released with no over target (for example, the user drops it outside the side panel or otherwise misses a droppable item), this branch removes it from its group and appends it to the root order. Root-layer no-target drops still cancel, and root-end moves already have explicit side-panel/end-placeholder targets below, so this makes a cancelled grouped drag unexpectedly mutate the workspace instead of being a no-op.

Preserve legend visibility controls
With the upgraded Kepler legend, MapLegendPanel now passes onToggleLayerVisibility, split-map state, and onMapToggleLayer so legend rows can toggle layer visibility, but this replacement filters out layer.config.isVisible rows before rendering and never exposes those handlers. When a user hides a layer, or wants to toggle a split-map pane from the legend, the row disappears instead of remaining available for re-enabling; please render all legend-eligible layers and wire the passed visibility callbacks.

Preserve split-pane legend filtering
In a split-map workspace where the two panes have different layer visibility, this now sends every layer to the legend regardless of the pane. CustomMapLegendPanel still renders the full legend only for mapIndex === 0, and before this change CustomMapLegend read mapIndex/SplitMapIndexContext and filtered with splitMaps[mapIndex].layers; after passing the unfiltered layers list here, the left-pane legend shows layers that are disabled for that pane. Please keep the per-pane splitMaps filter, or wire the upstream split visibility controls so the legend accurately represents split-map state.
