I'm first going to attempt to simply run this PR with buildbots so they get a checkout without the files and so the next checkout reinstalls the files with the .gitattributes applied. If that doesn't work, I'll attempt to push this change (breaking the build) and then push the reverse change (restoring the build). |

This PR did not have the intended effect. The offending buildbot doesn't appear to run often enough to reliably pick up changes from the repo. |
