CentOS 5 and 6 can't currently build Python because the package name specified is not what CentOS expects.
The packages to be installed should be "python" and "python-devel".
Additionally the prefix_dir "/usr/local" is not where CentOS looks for the contents installed by these packages.
This pull request cases on platform to ensure that CentOS has a clean install but it does not affect other platforms.
