💡 What is PDFAnnotations?

When reading academic papers, textbooks, or legal contracts, we highlight key passages and write notes. However, getting those annotations into modern note-taking systems like Obsidian, Notion, or Logseq is often a tedious process of copy-pasting and formatting.

PDFAnnotations.com solves this by parsing your PDFs entirely within your browser (using WebAssembly), giving you an elegant interface to filter, customize, and export your notes in seconds.

✨ Key Features

🔒 100% Local & Privacy-First (WASM)

Your files never touch our servers. All PDF parsing and annotation extraction are done locally on your device via WebAssembly (WASM). You can even disconnect your internet and use the tool completely offline.

🎯 Smart "Sentence" Mode

Tired of exporting fragmented words? Toggle Sentence Mode to automatically expand your highlighted words into the complete sentence they belong to, preserving the original context.

🎨 Interactive Template Designer

Customize your export formatting to match your specific note-taking workflow (e.g., Zettelkasten or evergreen notes).

  • Obsidian Callouts: Turn boring text lists into beautiful, color-coded callout blocks automatically.
  • Variables Support: Use dynamic tags like {{content}}, {{page}}, {{author}}, {{date}}, and {{colorHex}} in your template editor.
  • Save Templates: Save your custom templates to reuse them on your next PDF upload.

💬 Deep Comment & Metadata Preservation

  • Threaded Replies: Fully preserves nested comment chains (such as co-author review replies).
  • Rich Metadata: Automatically captures the page number, annotator's name, annotation timestamp, and precise RGB hex colors.
  • Drawings & Markups: Supports extraction of underlines, strikeouts, squiggly lines, and freehand drawings.

🎛️ Advanced Interactive Filtering

Filter your annotations on the fly before exporting:

  • Filter by specific Highlight Colors (e.g., only export red highlights).
  • Filter by specific Authors/Reviewers (e.g., only export comments from a specific supervisor).
  • Filter by page ranges or annotation types.

🛠️ Supported Export Formats (6 Formats)

  • Obsidian Integration: Dedicated sync and export channel optimized for your Obsidian vault, supporting native callouts and custom templates.
  • Notion Integration: Seamlessly sync your structured highlights and properties directly to your Notion workspace database.
  • Markdown (.md): Universal Markdown formatting for Logseq, Typora, and any general Markdown reader.
  • CSV / Spreadsheet: Ideal for Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, data analysis, and organizing literature reviews.
  • Plain Text (.txt): Clean, raw, and unformatted text list for quick copy-pasting.
  • JSON: Highly structured raw data, perfect for developers looking to build programmatic workflows.

🚀 Quick Start in 3 Steps

  1. Go to pdfannotations.com (No registration or login needed).
  2. Drag and drop your annotated PDF into the workspace.
  3. Configure your filters or templates, and click Copy to Clipboard or Download!

🤝 Feedbacks & Support

Since we process your files entirely locally, we cannot see your PDF format. If you find a specific PDF that doesn't extract properly, or if you have any feature requests:
