Documentation: use references instead of links between examples #1047

I've been trying to automatically check all links in the documentation via make linkcheck. It turns out that the relative links in the examples break this as the referenced documents don't exist yet. I tried to use references, but we need to wait for sphinx-gallery/sphinx-gallery#805 to see if this is possible.
