Fixes #6944

Type of change

  • Documentation update

Motivation

With the migration of hardware acceleration and Mojo packages to the max namespace (e.g. in max/mojo/max), the lack of an explicit license specification in max/mojo/max or in max/README.md created ambiguity over whether the source code remained under Apache 2.0 with LLVM Exceptions or transitioned to the Modular Community License.

This change clarifies the open-source licensing across the max Mojo package roots and framework documentation so users and contributors can immediately verify the licensing terms.

What changed

  • Added max/mojo/README.md & max/mojo/max/README.md:
    • Outlines the max Mojo package namespace and submodules (max.gpu, max.algorithm, max.benchmark, max.runtime).
    • Provides quick import usage and test pointers.
    • Adds an explicit ## License section indicating Apache License v2.0 with LLVM Exceptions and linking to the root LICENSE.
  • Updated max/README.md: Added ## License section clarifying open-source Apache 2.0 with LLVM Exceptions licensing for the repository source files.
  • Updated mojo/README.md: Added ## License section consistent with mojo/stdlib/README.md and mojo/examples/README.md.
  • Updated max/CONTRIBUTING.md: Added max/mojo under the Areas of contribution table.

Testing

  • Verified all relative markdown links ([LICENSE](../../LICENSE), [../CONTRIBUTING.md], subfolder links).
  • Reviewed against repository formatting and documentation conventions.

  usage, modules, and license notice.
