    Thanks for the bug report! We just wanted to quickly acknowledge we received it and we will triage this as soon as we can.

    @Cmdrd

    Experiencing the same issues with the same versions albeit on Ubuntu 22.04. Cause high CPU load and while CPU load is high, Intellisense does not work either until the CPU utilization comes back down again.

    Also having massive performance problems.
    Saving files and other normal tasks takes long and block all further useful interactions. Already deactivated most of linters etc.

    q-wertz Can you try out the pre-release?

    @q-wertz

    After restarting it takes quite a while where the git status is updated, other stuff is loaded and only the "editor/content …" warning is shown. After some time again the "Unresponsive" warning appears.

    @q-wertz

    Just to clarify: As soon as I deactivate the Python plugin VSCode behaves normal. Already tried to figure out if it has something to do with pytest unittests (added quite some) but didn't find any conclusions.

    @karrtikr

    Can you try enabling Python and disabling Jupyter extension instead? And see if you're able to reproduce the issue. Thank you.

  8. q-wertz commented on May 8, 2023

    @q-wertz

    After disabling the Jupyter extension it works better.

    It might be a clash of the Jupyter extension in combination with ms-python.black-formatter and/or charliermarsh.ruff. When more of the three are enabled I get the problems and a popup showing
    image

    even with "notebook.formatOnSave.enabled": false, (don't understand why it is running in this case on normal .py files anyway)

    @q-wertz

    Hmm…

    Saving files improved, but testing still does not work with all three disabled. Cannot start a single pytest parametrized test function… Running tests… message in status bar but nothing happening and when closing VSCode a "Not responding" message appears.

    @karrtikr

    The issue seems to be related to testing based on the CPU profile, reassigning. It would be helpful if you can upload the CPU profile again with the Python logs:

    This is also related: #21446 (comment),
    seems like .pyc file pattern should be excluded.

    This change will be out on vscode insiders tomorrow if you want to give it a chance and see if it improves your experience! Thanks
