LGTM.
Note that since the default scopes (https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/google-cloud-java/blob/b7b3f21b784a3524f7830f34148abfd3e39677d4/google-cloud-bigquery/src/main/java/com/google/cloud/bigquery/BigQueryOptions.java#L34) do not include drive/sheets you can't use default credentials with Google Sheets external tables.
I think you'll have to create a scoped GoogleCredentials http://google.github.io/google-auth-library-java/releases/0.9.0/apidocs/com/google/auth/oauth2/GoogleCredentials.html#createScoped-java.util.Collection- for this to work.
