The test was protecting the bug. Field notes on MLE and AI Engineering.

TensorFlow's xlogy returned the right value at x = 0 and the wrong gradient. The existing test expected that wrong answer. My fix changed the derivative and the test that had kept it looking correct. Read the story · Merged patch

My open-source work is in MLE & AI Engineering: ML framework correctness, LLM inference, retrieval pipelines, and MCP tools. I tend to stay with a bug until I can explain why the original code looked reasonable.

Two more places to start

The retry skipped the document that failed. Swiftide wrote its cache entry before embedding and storage finished. A failed document could then be skipped on every retry. Moving the write meant working out when a document was complete, even after chunking and filtered errors. Read the story · Merged patch

One MCP call finished. Another lost its database session. Concurrent async tools in Apache Superset shared a session; one call's cleanup could detach another call's objects. I isolated sessions per invocation while preserving the default scope elsewhere. Merged patch and regression tests

LLM integrations, developer tools, and infrastructure
Area Contributions
LLM applications OGX: persist vector-store metadata · Dify: shorten database sessions for icon lookups · AutoGPT: handle empty provider responses
Developer tools VS Code: keep a single-line status item from wrapping · Deno: prevent an LSP timing panic · Memos: generate meta descriptions
Infrastructure Ballista: classify wrapped retryable I/O errors · Celery: release retained result messages · Prefect: support ECS placement configuration
