   Yes, this is a new feature in-progress that I use heavily in wheaty. My code is at https://github.com/creationix/wheaty/blob/master/lib/fetch.js

   Actually, I misread your question. My example is cloning directly to a fs-db using the traditional pack protocol (thus skipping js-github). If you want to use js-github, the sync mixin in js-git may help, but it's much slower and will likely hit the rate limit on github since every object is a new request.
