Align profiler bindings and capability checks with Python 3.15 - #9340
Continue extracting profiler work from #8954, preserving the offline argument-binding and finite-EOF fixes already in this PR.
Accept writer keywords and numeric protocols while preserving float-subclass payloads and conversion order.
Preserve CPython's finite-EOF decoding windows with checked offsets, allocation limits and cursor bounds.
Add is_python_process with bounded CPython runtime-cookie discovery for Linux, macOS and Windows, plus the platform build capability export. Detection uses runtime metadata, not a constant result or process-name-only heuristic.
Import CPython 3.15 d220409a13b77de7a6c30abe16ea90db01528edc's two remote-debugging support helpers and full test_external_inspection through the official updater. Add a conservative selected-function importer so unrelated support helpers remain unchanged.
RemoteUnwinder remains unsupported. The canonical upstream capability gate is preserved without a RustPython-specific skip guard, fake platform/capability or removed API.
Validation
Final head 4961cfbb: default Linux CLI build, strict host_env/stdlib library Clippy (--lib -- -D warnings) and normal commit hooks passed.
28 deterministic object-parser, in-memory reader and budget observations passed on the locator source imported here.
Official-updater tooling: 23 tests and Ruff checks passed; canonical bytes and unrelated support-byte preservation verified.
Seven pre-backend binding/conversion observations passed in both pinned CPython and the sealed final candidate. Types, callbacks and sentinel identity match; existing error-wording differences are recorded.
One normal canonical import produced all five upstream class skip markers and the expected cached helper behavior. Its captured result was accepted by separately reviewed offline verification after a validation-only bootstrap-origin mismatch; the original failed guard receipt remains preserved. This is import/decorator evidence, not execution of the live tests.
The earlier 36d6bf9 standalone source passed 39 offline comparisons and 14 existing binary-format methods, including the finite-EOF regressions.
Remaining limits
The CPython owned-child positive detector control returned False; the candidate live-process matrix was therefore not run. Positive detection and native macOS/Windows compilation/runtime remain unvalidated locally. No unwinder, full-suite, baseline-run or all-green CI claim is made. The canonical observation's supplemental verification establishes matching endpoints, not continuous immutability or runtime object identity.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added the ability to check whether a process is running Python.
Selective library migration can now copy chosen top-level functions, with checks for source and destination changes.
Bug Fixes
Exit details can include optional exception values and tracebacks.
Profiling accepts Python values for sample timestamps, durations, and sample rates.
Profile data with string or frame tables extending beyond the statistics section can now be read.
Compile warnings retain the requested filename, and warning-hook exceptions are preserved.
Added an indicator for process memory read support.
Accept the canonical keyword names for binary sample writes and native
context exits. Resolve the argument layout before numeric callbacks,
then preserve float-subclass payloads while accepting numeric protocols
for required and optional profile statistics.

OpenAI Codex. Runtime validation remains pending.

Preserve the original mega branch's zero-valued process_vm_readv
capability export. The native live unwinder remains unsupported; this
restores the public feature query without claiming live inspection support
or changing canonical test helpers.

The PR adds host-side Python process detection on Linux, macOS, and Windows and exposes it through the stdlib remote-debugging module. It also changes profiler parsing, compiler warning filename handling, and selective function migration.

Adds shared cookie checks, read budgets, and object-file section lookup. Adds the target-specific dependencies and public module wiring used by the probes.
Platform process probes crates/host_env/src/remote_debugging/linux.rs, crates/host_env/src/remote_debugging/macos.rs, crates/host_env/src/remote_debugging/windows.rs
Adds process-memory and module inspection for Linux, macOS, and Windows. Each probe checks candidate Python runtime memory for the expected cookie and applies bounded reads.
Python remote-debugging API crates/host_env/src/remote_debugging/mod.rs, crates/stdlib/src/_remote_debugging.rs, crates/stdlib/src/_remote_debugging/binary.rs
Adds the Python-process check and capability constant. Updates profiler argument binding and numeric conversions. The binary reader extends table cursors to EOF and removes the parsed-end boundary check; zstd rejection remains unchanged.
Compiler warnings retain the original filename object when available and use it when creating warning exceptions. The symtable path assigns the requested filename to converted compile errors and propagates warning-hook exceptions without changing their attributes.

Function selection and validation scripts/update_lib/cmd_migrate.py

On Linux the module reports live process-reading support although live profiling is not implemented. Consumers and tests that check this flag would take a path that fails. Set the constant to 0 before merging. Separately, the migration helper can misplace copied functions in files that contain form-feed or Unicode line-separator characters.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "Align profiler bindings and capability checks with Python 3.15" partially matches the changeset. The PR objectives describe aligning offline profiler argument binding (keyword args for write_sample, exit parameter names, set_stats numeric protocols), restoring PROCESS_VM_READV_SUPPORTED = 0, and restoring CPython finite-EOF table-count windows. However, the raw summary shows a much broader diff: a new remote-debugging host_env module with Linux, macOS, and Windows probes, new Cargo dependencies (mach2, object, Cranelift upgrade), compiler warning filename changes in vm/compile.rs, symtable changes, and a scripts/update_lib migration tool with selected-function copying. The title covers the profiler binding part but omits the large host-environment probing additions and the unrelated compiler, symtable, and scripts changes. The title is therefore related to a real part of the change but does not name the main point of the full changeset.

Set PROCESS_VM_READV_SUPPORTED to 0 until live profiling exists.
The constant evaluates to 1 on non-uclibc Linux. The PR objective says it should be restored to 0. The Rust stdlib module re-exports this value, and its only RemoteUnwinder constructor always raises NotImplementedError. Consumers that gate live inspection on the constant can therefore select a path that fails on Linux, instead of skipping it.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Split source lines the way the AST counts them.
str.splitlines(True) also splits on \x0c, \x1c–\x1e, \x85, \u2028 and \u2029. ast and the tokenizer count lines only at \n, \r and \r\n.
A source or destination file can contain a form feed or a U+2028 character, for example in a string or a page-break comment. In that case source_lines and lines no longer line up with lineno and end_lineno. The slices at Lines 540 and 538, and the insertion offset, then point at the wrong lines. The result can still pass the final ast.parse, so the tool can write a misplaced or truncated function.
The same pattern exists in copy_selected_assignments (Line 260). Fix both together.
Add import io to the module imports. Apply the same change at Line 260.
