Restrict profiling callbacks to the enabling thread
sys.monitoring.set_events is interpreter-wide, so when another RustPython thread runs while a profile is enabled its callbacks also append to this single stack. If calls from two threads overlap, leave() takes the current last context irrespective of thread, charges its duration to the returning thread's key, and truncates the other thread's suffix; queued callbacks can also repopulate it after disable(). Filter on the thread that called enable() (matching cProfile) or maintain one stack per thread, otherwise multithreaded profiles report corrupt call counts, callers, and timings.

Update the async synthetic frame layout
When an async sample contains parent/child task links, this constructs CPython 3.15's four-field (filename, location, funcname, opcode) sentinel. RustPython's registered _remote_debugging.FrameInfo in crates/stdlib/src/_remote_debugging.rs still accepts only the three-field (filename, lineno, funcname) sequence, so this path raises TypeError before any async profile is exported. Bring the Rust compatibility struct (including LocationInfo) up to the imported layout rather than patching the canonical Lib file.

Avoid skipping all collector tests on RustPython
On RustPython the existing _remote_debugging stub imports, but it does not export any of the THREAD_STATUS_* constants requested above, so this handler deterministically skips the entire 3,543-line collector suite. Those tests use mocks, and profiling.sampling.constants already defines fallback bit values, so export the matching compatibility constants from the Rust stub and let the suite execute; the repository guidance reserves skips for tests that would crash or hang.

Initialize sampled sort keys after switching classes
When pstats.Stats(path) loads a file emitted by PstatsCollector.export(), this assignment runs inside Stats.__init__; assigning __class__ does not execute SampledStats.__init__, so sort_arg_dict remains empty and get_sort_arg_defs() fills it from the regular Stats.sort_arg_dict_default. As a result sort_stats("samples"), "nsamples", or "psamples" raises KeyError for the main auto-detecting file API and the browser cannot select those sort modes. Make the sampled definitions a class default or explicitly initialize them after detection.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
Keep the deterministic tracing profiler and its canonical tools together. Defer the entirely new sampling production, tests, assets and their license as one closure until native record and binary-collector support is ready. Retain canonical pstats for deterministic empty-profile handling; its upstream sampled-file sorting issue is not patched here. Assisted-by: dot:GPT-6.1

Restore the direct profile import
This warning-suppression block changes test control flow and hides every DeprecationWarning raised while importing profile, even though the root test policy forbids test-logic edits and limits test-file changes to expected-failure markers. Keep the canonical direct import so warning behavior remains observable.

Remove the absent sampling export
When callers execute from profiling import *, import handling loads tracing and then tries to resolve sampling; a repo-wide search and inspection of Lib/profiling find no sampling module in this tree, so the import raises AttributeError instead of exposing the available profiling API. Omit this name until that package is shipped.

Preserve static builtin labels
When profiling a Rust #[pystaticmethod] such as str.maketrans, PyNativeFunction::get_self() deliberately returns None for STATIC methods and build_staticmethod leaves the module unset, so this branch falls through to <maketrans> rather than cProfile's <built-in method maketrans>. Preserve the hidden bound type or otherwise handle STATIC here so getstats() and pstats do not mislabel these builtins.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
Omit the whole newly added canonical package initializer rather than advertise an absent sampling module or hand-edit canonical __all__. Explicit profiling.tracing and cProfile imports remain available. The namespace root intentionally lacks canonical metadata/automatic exports. This addresses test___all__ failures in the prior Linux, macOS and Windows CI runs. No test assertions, skips or canonical file contents are changed. Assisted-by: dot:GPT-6.1
Normalize the raw builtin receiver instead of its call-argument accessor. Snapshot static method module metadata at construction, matching CPython, so explicit module mutation and deletion remain observable. Avoid a profiler-time fallback that would obscure deleted metadata. Correct float.__getformat__ to CPython's classmethod calling convention, including subclass binding, rather than special-casing its profiler label. Assisted-by: dot:GPT-6.1

Add the profiling parent to frozen stdlib
In the default WASM/freeze-stdlib configuration, import cProfile reaches this import but cannot resolve its parent package: the freeze compiler only emits entries for .py files and only marks __init__.py entries as packages (crates/derive-impl/src/compile_bytecode.rs:172-235), while a repo-wide search finds no Lib/profiling/__init__.py and the frozen importer does exact-name lookups. The frozen map therefore contains profiling.tracing but no profiling, so deployments without the Lib filesystem cannot use the newly added cProfile module; add a minimal parent package or synthesize a frozen namespace entry.

Disable events before removing callbacks
When sys.monitoring.register_callback is wrapped in Python, or a traceable audit hook is installed, the unregister calls above execute Python while global events are still active. The first iteration removes PY_START, so a later wrapper/hook can emit PY_RETURN without a matching start; _pyreturn_callback then makes leave() retire the unrelated top profiler context and corrupts the collected calls and timings. Move set_events(..., 0) before unregistering the callbacks.

Avoid qualifying static builtins with builtins
When profiling a non-heap #[pystaticmethod] such as str.maketrans, this fallback stores "builtins" in the function, and NativeCall::label()'s receiver branch unconditionally qualifies any string module, so getstats() reports <built-in method builtins.maketrans> rather than cProfile's <built-in method maketrans>. Fresh evidence since the prior comment is this new "builtins" fallback together with the still-unfiltered receiver branch at _lsprof.rs:472-476; keep builtins static-method labels unqualified instead of changing their public module metadata.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
Generate empty frozen packages only for source namespace directories with real frozen descendants. Preserve genuine modules and packages across frozen-library registrations while retaining real-real replacement order. Record the container marker in FrozenModule and its library envelope; legacy module/package encodings remain unchanged. This is closed-tree frozen packaging, not full PEP 420 namespace merging. Add structural codec, mock generator, and registration-priority checks.

Preserve namespace semantics in frozen builds
When freeze-stdlib is enabled and a source directory has no __init__.py (including the newly added Lib/profiling parent), this emits an empty module marked as a regular package. The namespace-only bit is used only while merging frozen maps; _imp.find_frozen() exposes just package, so FrozenImporter creates a package with a fixed/empty __path__ and wins before PathFinder. Consequently filesystem portions such as an installed profiling.sampling, or even a regular package with the same name, remain discoverable in a non-frozen build but are shadowed in a frozen/WASM build. Carry the namespace status through import-spec creation rather than representing the container as an ordinary package.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

Keep the unsupported live process capability absent and preserve existing canonical test gates. Include the profiling license in distributable packages
When publishing rustpython-pylib or building the configured desktop installer, this notice is omitted: crates/pylib/Cargo.toml:4-5 packages Lib/ with only Lib/PSF-LICENSE, while Cargo.toml:155-158 includes LICENSE and Lib but not this root-level file. Bundle report assets with the frozen standard library
When a freeze-stdlib deployment exports a flamegraph, this read fails because crates/derive-impl/src/compile_bytecode.rs:179-237 freezes only .py files and FrozenImporter provides no resource reader for importlib.resources. Consequently the newly added HTML/CSS/JS/PNG files are unavailable to both the flamegraph and heatmap exporters in frozen/WASM builds; embed these resources or teach the frozen loader to serve them.

Preserve the sampled marker when dumping sampled stats
When pstats.Stats loads a file from PstatsCollector, load_stats() removes ('__sampled__',) and switches the instance to this class, but this class inherits Stats.dump_stats(), which marshals only self.stats. Calling stats.dump_stats(other_path) therefore creates a file that reloads as ordinary Stats and loses sampled-specific sorting and headings; override dumping here to reinsert the marker as PstatsCollector._dump_stats() does.

Make asset hashing independent of checkout EOLs
When freeze-stdlib is built from a Windows Git checkout with core.autocrlf=true, the CSS/JS/HTML assets are materialized with CRLF because .gitattributes has no eol=LF rule for these paths, while the hard-coded digests were generated from LF blobs (for example, such a checkout changes flamegraph.css from the expected a57f… digest to ed78…). This assertion therefore aborts rustpython-pylib's build script before any Windows frozen build can compile; mark these resource paths as text eol=LF or normalize the bytes before hashing and embedding.

Summary
Split the tracing profiler and canonical profiling tools from #8954 after prerequisite #9215 landed. Target remains CPython 3.15.0, pinned to d220409a13b77de7a6c30abe16ea90db01528edc.
_lsprofwith operation exclusion, short payload borrows, owned callback roots, interpreter-affinity checks and cyclic-GC traversal of owned code references/caches.update_lib. Include canonical asyncio.tools and its paired tests for the FrameInfo location schema. No manually edited Lib snippets or new test skips.Scope: 79 changed files, including 51 canonical/updater-generated Lib outputs. License and copyright terms are preserved.
Canonical package closure, without namespace emulation
The previous frozen namespace-container extension is completely reverted in a separate logical commit. Its synthetic-package field, serialization marker and priority changes are absent. The resource support below is a separate loader capability for canonical regular packages; no namespace emulation or FrozenModule/FrozenLib wire-format change is introduced.
The canonical profiling root and selected sampling production/test/assets closure are restored together, including the binary reader/writer Python wrappers and tests. Normal packages therefore work through existing filesystem and frozen import semantics, including canonical wildcard exports. Tests were not removed in isolation to avoid failures.
Explicit capability boundaries
This is offline file support, not live process sampling. RemoteUnwinder remains the existing NotImplemented implementation. PROCESS_VM_READV_SUPPORTED remains absent exactly as on main; no false capability flag or process reader/writer/attachment implementation is added. Importing the canonical offline production modules works, but constructing a live SampleProfiler still reaches the unsupported unwinder.
zstd_available() is false; zstd files/requests receive an unsupported-compression error rather than being mislabeled or silently decoded as raw data.
Existing canonical capability gates still skip test_collectors, test_binary_format and test_external_inspection as whole modules. These are skips, not passing suites. No capability injection or skip edits were used for validation.
Canonical pstats sampled-file sort_stats("samples") still reproduces an upstream KeyError on pinned CPython; this PR does not claim to fix it.
Reader safety deliberately differs from pinned CPython in repeated/simultaneous replay: each replay owns independent decoding state, concurrent replay on the same open reader is rejected, and close/reinitialization cannot invalidate the owned snapshot during callbacks. File parsing checks lengths/arithmetic and allocates from actual validated payload, not advertised counts. These checks are not claims of malformed-input, OOM or race-stress coverage.
Fresh offline-correction validation
These are scoped local gates, not a complete profiler/binary/native suite. Full workspace/CAPI compilation and runtime suites were not repeated for the offline correction. No live-process, fork/ptrace, malformed-file, large-allocation, deep-recursion, reentrant close/timer/deallocation or crash probes were run. One Cargo job, no incremental compilation and time/memory/disk guards were used. Correctness gates are not performance measurements.
Earlier proof and inherited limitations
Earlier revision 94f8b2b passed workspace/CAPI no-run compilation and strict all-target Clippy, 16 selected VM and 11 selected CAPI cases, and paired builtin-label/module-mutation/float-binding oracles. That broad proof belongs to that historical source, not the new offline codec.
A bounded owned-thread oracle recorded three worker calls on both pinned CPython and this implementation. CPython also uses interpreter-wide monitoring and does not filter to the enabling thread. Disable callback/event ordering likewise follows pinned CPython. Neither observation establishes race safety.
The lock acquisition/handoff concerns inherited from #9215 are not fixed by this consumer or by the prerequisite's merge, including #9215 (comment) . Ordinary passing tests do not resolve those races.
Earlier CI failures for the incomplete root all and the review finding against the frozen namespace workaround are addressed by the coherent canonical package restoration, not suppressed assertions or fabricated sampling capability. Public CI remains separate from local proof. Skipped pyperf or CodSpeed execution is not a performance pass.
AI assistance
Prepared, adapted and validated with dot (GPT-6.1). Native codec/API, callback ownership and compatibility changes were independently source-reviewed. Canonical library files were generated with the repository updater, not rewritten manually.
Windows conversion lint follow-up
Windows Clippy on 7e3b98e flagged the c_long-to-i32 location conversion as same-type. e8f0bcf adds a documented allowance on that conversion only, retaining LP64 truncation and Windows identity semantics. Linux strict affected all-target Clippy and normal commit hooks passed again. Runtime/codec behavior is unchanged; hosted Windows Clippy passed on e8f0bcf (job 119328656630).
Packaging and resource follow-up
eab90b8 keeps the profiling asset notice solely at crates/pylib/LICENSE-profiling, where the vendored Lib assets are packaged, and removes the redundant root copy. Desktop resource metadata references that crate-local path. The notice bytes and copyright/license terms are unchanged; cargo package --list includes the notice alongside the assets, all desktop resource inputs exist, and normal hooks passed. This is a packaging-only correction, not a new native/runtime proof.
The frozen report-resource finding is addressed by the native resource-reader correction below. This is resource availability/protocol proof, not an executed HTML exporter, browser or wasm-runtime test.
The sampled-pstats dump marker issue also reproduces identically on pinned CPython: a 74-byte sampled input loads as SampledStats, dump_stats writes 58 bytes without the marker, and the result reloads as Stats. No manual Lib fix is applied or claimed.
Native frozen resource correction
1200603 adds a native FrozenImporter ResourceReader/Traversable capability without canonical importlib edits or a frozen bytecode format change. Exactly 16 canonical profiling assets (663,390 bytes) are build-time SHA-256 verified and embedded as immutable snapshots. Other Lib data is not blanket-embedded; there is no filesystem fallback or spoofed resource path. The existing crate-local license notice is retained unchanged.
Code and assets are registered together. New readers require matching live package/anchor registration tokens. Code-only replacement invalidates bindings even for identical bytecode; existing readers may retain their immutable snapshots. Exact names are required, so unbound aliases cannot borrow another registration's assets. Replacing a nested package invalidates its own/descendant anchors but does not revoke the unchanged parent owner's independently registered asset paths.
Logical resource paths reject absolute paths, parent traversal, drive/UNC/backslash and NUL forms. Only r/rb opens are allowed, with read-only BufferedReader/TextIOWrapper streams. Standard importlib.resources.as_file handles explicitly requested owned temporary extraction.
Public Rust API impact: PyGlobalState.frozen changes from HashMap to FrozenModuleRegistry. Controlled get/keys/len/is_empty/contains_key/insert/extend/remove/clear/clone remain available; raw mutable-map access, direct HashMap assignment and other map-specific APIs require migration. add_frozen_modules remains valid code-only registration; embedders wanting assets use add_frozen_modules_with_resources with FROZEN_STDLIB_RESOURCES. Main, wasm and shipped embedding examples use the paired API. No FrozenModule/FrozenLib serialization fields or markers change.
Final source-bound local gates passed:
The resource correction is 14 source/build files plus Cargo.lock, with no Lib changes. These are scoped Linux local gates, not a full workspace/CAPI suite, wasm runtime, HTML exporter/browser execution, malformed-input/stress coverage or performance measurement. Public CI for this exact new head is tracked separately; skipped benchmark execution is not a performance pass.
