Closes #247

References

PR #246, docs/continuous-improvement/post-merge-reflections/2026-02-01-issue-237-m1-d1-1-d1-2-d1-3-d1-4-build-s.md

Summary

Post-merge reflection from PR #246 identified 6 process failures where CodeRabbit caught issues that should have been caught locally. Fixes span task-check, code-review, bug-scanner, and the post-merge-completion workflow format.

Full Details

Post-merge-completion format

  • Add pipeline timeline section with overall duration header
  • Claude diagnoses pipeline inefficiencies from timeline
  • Store reflections in docs/continuous-improvement/post-merge-reflections/{date}-{branch-name}.md
  • Each 5 Whys failure needs a short "What happened" description
  • Mindset: anything accepted from GitHub = process failure. Goal: CodeRabbit finds nothing.

Task-check

  • Verify behavioral correctness of wiring (parameter propagation), not just structural integration

Code-review rules

  • SD rule: Never mutate function parameters (scan for .remove*(), .set*(), .push() on params)
  • Enforce edge case checklists from writing-tests skill
  • Apply duplication/magic number checks equally to test files
  • Verify test assertions exercise behavior claimed by test title

Bug-scanner rules

  • RFC rule: Use symbol-based name resolution for AST type comparisons
  • Check for inconsistent patterns across files in same feature

Acceptance Criteria

  • Post-merge-completion workflow updated with new format (timeline, inefficiency diagnosis, permanent storage, failure descriptions)
  • Task-check verifies behavioral correctness not just structural integration
  • SD rule added: no function parameter mutation
  • Code-review enforces edge case checklists on test files
  • Code-review checks duplication/magic numbers in test files equally
  • Code-review verifies assertion-to-title alignment
  • RFC rule added: symbol-based AST name resolution
  • Bug-scanner checks for inconsistent patterns across feature files

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated internal code review guidelines and best practices documentation.
    • Added new design principles and governance sections for code quality standards.
    • Expanded convention checks and audit coverage.
    • Improved reflection and post-merge feedback workflow documentation with enhanced reporting templates.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

This PR implements process improvements from post-merge reflection by adding new documentation rules (RFC-010, SD-022, CR-007, CR-008), expanding existing rule coverage, introducing a new bug-scanner category (BS-015), and restructuring the post-merge reflection workflow with pipeline timeline and inefficiency diagnosis sections.

Changes

Cohort / File(s) Summary
Agent Configurations
.claude/agents/bug-scanner.md, .claude/agents/code-review.md, .claude/agents/task-check.md
Extends rule coverage: bug-scanner adds BS-015 for inconsistent patterns and RFC-010; code-review adds CR-007/CR-008 and expands SD/TS rules; task-check adds behavioral correctness verification guidance. Audit totals updated: bug-scanner from 22 to 25, code-review from 54 to 58.
Post-Merge Workflow
.claude/commands/post-merge-completion.md
Restructures reflection file path to docs/continuous-improvement/post-merge-reflections/{YYYY-MM-DD}-{branch-name}.md, introduces Pipeline Timeline subsection with step-by-step duration tracking, adds Pipeline Inefficiency Diagnosis section, expands 5 Whys analysis with root-cause and improvement details, and updates mindset to treat accepted feedback as process failure.
Convention Documentation
docs/conventions/review-feedback-checks.md, docs/conventions/software-design.md, docs/workflow/code-review.md
Adds RFC-010 (symbol-based AST name resolution), SD-022 (never mutate function parameters), CR-007 (assertion-to-title alignment in tests), and CR-008 (edge case checklist enforcement) with detection patterns, BAD/GOOD examples, and remediation guidance.

Poem

🐰 Hop along the path of rules so neat,
New guidelines make our process complete!
From timelines traced to patterns found,
Each rabbit-checked improvement will astound!
No mutated params, symbols shine bright,
Our workflow's now perfectly right! ✨

Title check ✅ Passed The title accurately describes the three main changes: pipeline timeline additions, edge case enforcement, and permanent reflection storage location updates.
Linked Issues check ✅ Passed All eight acceptance criteria from issue #247 are met: post-merge-completion format updated with timeline/diagnosis/storage/failures; task-check enhanced for behavioral verification; SD-022 rule added for parameter mutation; edge case and duplication checks applied to tests; assertion-to-title alignment enforced; RFC-010 symbol-based resolution added; inconsistent patterns check added across files.
Out of Scope Changes check ✅ Passed All changes align with issue #247 objectives. Documentation updates to .claude/agents files reflect the new checks, RFC additions, and audit totals are in scope as supporting infrastructure for the acceptance criteria.
