GitCMS + Astro
The Astro CMS for your team,
clients, and agents.
Built your Astro site with code or an AI coding agent? GitCMS gives everyone who runs it one safe place to edit, review, and publish—while your content files, Git history, and deployment pipeline stay yours.

Trusted by 200+ website builders
Your framework, repository, content files, and hosting stay exactly where they are.
Day One is done
Your Astro site is built. Who runs it now?
A coding agent can ship a Astro site in an afternoon. After launch the work changes: copy updates, new posts, client requests, and agent edits someone needs to check. That's Day Two, and it's what GitCMS is for.
Day One · Build
Coding agents reach for Astro for marketing sites: fast by default, Tailwind-friendly, and content collections built in.
The handoff
Page copy, posts, and case studies live in content collections under src/content, so clients edit Markdown and fields, never .astro components.
Day Two · Run
Clients, marketers, and AI agents edit through GitCMS. Changes are reviewed, published as commits, and Astro rebuilds from your repo as usual.
Astro handoff tip: Agents often hardcode copy in .astro components. Ask yours to move editable text into a pages collection before you hand the site off.
"GitCMS turns your repo into a full CMS — no database needed."
A visual workspace for everyone running the site.
Writers, marketers, and clients work visually while GitCMS keeps every change grounded in the content model and files in your Astro repository.
- Familiar rich-text and block editing
- Structured fields from your content model
- Images and media stay with the repository
- Astro content collections with visual field editing
Bring your own agent. Keep the final say.
Let the AI tools you already use research, draft, and propose changes. GitCMS turns that work into a visible content task for your Astro site before anything is published.
- Use ChatGPT, Claude, or a personal agent like OpenClaw or Hermes
- Proposed changes stay attached to a content task
- People refine and approve the work
- GitCMS publishes only when the team is ready
Review important changes before they go live.
See what changed, keep feedback with the work, and publish only when it is ready—whether the update came from a person or an AI agent.
- Ideas, Draft, Review, and Published stay visible
- Briefs, feedback, contributors, and changes stay together
- Reviewers decide what is ready to ship
- Git records the final published history

Astro CMS questions
- What is GitCMS for Astro?
- GitCMS is a visual CMS for Astro sites that live in a Git repository. It reads the Markdown or MDX files your site builds from (for example src/content/blog), lets your team, clients, and AI agents edit, review, and publish them, and commits every change back to your repo.
- Does GitCMS work with Astro content collections?
- Yes. Each Astro content collection maps to a GitCMS collection. Match your field names to the schema in your content config (if Astro expects pubDate, use pubDate), and GitCMS edits the same Markdown or MDX files Astro builds from.
- How do I let a client edit an Astro site?
- Keep the copy your client should edit in content collections instead of hardcoding it in .astro components, connect the repository to GitCMS, and invite the client with access to that site only. They edit visually; every save is a commit Astro builds and deploys as usual.
- Can I replace WordPress with Astro and GitCMS?
- Yes. Many agencies now rebuild WordPress sites in Astro, often with Claude Code, for speed and lower hosting cost. GitCMS gives the client back what they had in WordPress: an admin where they can edit pages and publish posts, without plugins, themes, or a database.
- Can non-developers edit a Astro site without Git?
- Yes. Writers, marketers, and clients edit in a visual editor and move work through drafts, review, and publishing. Git stays underneath; nobody has to touch branches, pull requests, or the codebase.
- My Astro site was built with Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor. Will GitCMS work?
- Yes, if the site is in a Git repository and loads its editable content from Markdown or MDX. GitCMS gives you a copy-paste prompt so your coding agent can set up the configuration, including moving hardcoded copy into collections.
- Do I need to change my Astro build or hosting?
- No. GitCMS commits to your repository and your existing build and hosting deploy those commits as usual. There is no content database or API to add.

Marketing pages, blogs, docs, changelogs, help centers, directories — if your site reads it from Markdown or MDX, GitCMS lets people and agents run it.
