The Louisiana Coast Protection and Restoration Authority celebrated the completion of the Bayou Pigeon Boat Launch Improvement Project on Friday alongside officials from Iberville Parish.
The state’s coastal leadership made clear that it intends to prioritize other types of projects, particularly large-scale “land bridges” built with dredged sediment in the Terrebonne, Barataria and Breton basins. Barrier island restorations will also be part of the strategy.
The state’s biggest marsh-building project ever completed was unveiled Tuesday in St. Bernard Parish, where enough sediment to fill the Superdome three times over was used to rebuild land rapidly washing away along the edge of Lake Borgne.
